Goodfellow Track

page 4

A little further upstream it's a touch narrower and more vigorous. Alice has a ball darting in and out of it. Parataniwha overhangs.

Up the other side a substantial branch reaches out just above my head.

The track climbs gently over the small ridge between the two Goodfellow streams

Nertera covers a substantial fallen tree.

A young Schefflera makes its way out from among the exposed roots on the bank beside the track.

We've seen several large kauri along the way. Here's a young fellow.

I have to say they've done a very neat job of the track along here. No litter dumped to the side out of the way.

A few more steps help us up the next bit.

A rather lovely kauri stands at the top of a small section of track

I stand beside it and look up.

We're heading around the end of a small ridge just here.

It's quite steep to left and right in places. I'm glad there's plenty of substantial vegetation on the downside.

Filmy ferns take over a damp section of bank.

As we descend towards the second stream crossing, parataniwha dominates again, and the track narrows considerably.

By the time we get to the bottom I feel dwarfed alongside the cliff rising vertically beside me, and covered in moss and ferns.

I think this is probably a creek fern, but if it's not it's one of the Blechnums.
